Rebuild

By Michael on Apr 24, 2007

I have been purchasing some parts here and there to get the build going. I got a call today from the machine shop saying that the block and crank are ready to go. The block will not be .040 over and the crank is .020 under. Here are my current parts:

  • Comp Cams 292 Magnum K-Kit
  • Melling High Volume Oil Pump
  • Edlebrock High Volume Water Pump
  • Fel Pro Gasket Kit
  • Powermaster High Torque Starter
  • Keith Black Hypereutectic Pistons
  • Sealed Powered Piston Rings
  • Mallory Spark Plugs Wires
  • Clevite P-Series Rod Bearings
  • Clevite P-Series Main Bearings
  • Summit Carburetor Scoop

I'm waiting till this weekend to verify certain measurements, such as the connecting rod length and push rod length. Once I have those, I can order them and put this thing together.

*UPDATE - May 2nd, 2007*

I measured everything over the weekend and ordered the parts on Sunday. They have been shipped out and are arriving today. The build will resume this weekend. In the mean while, my old pistons have been pressed off my previous connecting rods and if the rods check out, they will have the new pistons pressed on. The other three parts are the following:

  • Mallory 85 Series HEI Distributor
  • Hughes Performance Street Master Torque Converter
  • COMP Cams Hi-Tech Pushrods

*UPDATE - May 2nd, 2007 (2pm)*

During lunch, I picked up the packages from our main office. They were a bit heavier than I anticipated, but I didn't mind. Now that I have everything, I just need to wait till this weekend to finish it up!"

Tear Down

By Michael on Mar 06, 2007

I didn't like doing this to my car, but it had to be done. During my previous race, something really messed up. There was a loud clunking noise when there was a load on the engine. I was told it could be a spun bearing, heads being messed up, and several other things.

Anyway, I ended up taking off the heads first just to see if they were alright. They checked out. I took off the oil pan to see if there were metal shavings in it. That was good as well. I had no choice and ripped out the motor. This is the current state that the vehicle is in. My plans are to rebuild the 289 and hop it up.
